[...] Turkish Statistical Institute (TÜİK) has released its inflation figures for the month of January. Monthly Consumer Price Inflation (CPI) figure rose surprisingly by 1.00 percent, while Producer Price Index (PPI) fell by 0.05 percent. 12-month CPI inflation amounted to 9.93 percent, and PPI inflation to 9.37 percent. Recent expectations were up 0.3 percent for January CPI inflation, and in line with actual figures for PPI inflation. The TÜİK released a detailed monthly inflation statement. The statement says: Monthly change in CPI was realised by 1,00% A rise in general indices was realised in the 2003=100 based Consumer Price Index on the previous month by 1,00%, on December of the previous year by 1,00%, on same month of the previous year by 9,93% and on the twelve months moving averages basis by 9,76% in January 2007. The highest monthly increase was in the index for food and non-alcoholic beverages by main expenditure groups The highest monthly increase was 4,44% in the index for food and non-alcoholic beverages by main expenditure groups. The indices rose for communication 1,71%, for housing 1,18%, for hotels, cafes and restaurants 1,13%, for miscellaneous goods and services 0,78%, for health 0,66%, for furnishings and household equipment 0,10%, for recreation and culture 0,02%, for alcoholic beverages and tobacco 0,01%, while the indices declined for transportation -0,03%, for clothing and footwear -8,43%. Index for education remained unchanged in January 2007. The highest annual increase was in the index for food and non-alcoholic beverages The highest increase was 14,60% in the index for food and non-alcoholic beverages compared with the same month of the previous year. Housing (13,94%), hotels, cafes and restaurants (13,65%) and miscellaneous goods and services (11,04%) were the other indices where high increases were realised. The highest monthly increase was 3,32% in TRC3 (Mardin, Batman, Şirnak, Siirt) among 26 regions (NUTS2) The highest monthly increase in CPI by regional basis was in TRC3 (Mardin, Batman, Şõrnak, Siirt) region (3,32%). The high increases in CPI were recorded in TR72 (Kayseri, Sivas, Yozgat) region (12,40%) compared with the same month of the previous year and in Ankara (11,58%) on the twelve months moving averages basis. Monthly change in PPI was realised by -0,05% A decline in general indices was realised in the 2003=100 based Producer Price Index on the previous month by -0,05%, on December of the previous year by -0,05%, and a rise on same month of the previous year by 9,37% and on averages of twelve months by 9,68% in January 2007. Monthly changes were 1,78% in the index of agriculture and -0,46% in the index of industry PPI of agriculture increased 1,78% compared with December of the previous year, 2,41% compared with the same month of the previous year and 7,14% on the averages of twelve months basis. PPI of industry section decreased -0,46% compared with December of the previous year, increased 11,10% compared with the same month of the previous year and 10,21% on the averages of twelve months basis. The highest monthly increase in the PPI of industrial activities was recorded 12,74% in the index for crude petroleum and natural gas production There were increases 4,21% in the index for mining and stone quarrying and decreases -0,58% in the index for manufacturing industry and -0,07% in the index for electricity, gas and water by sub-sections of industry. The high rates of monthly increase in PPI by sub divisions were in the industrial price indices for crude petroleum and natural gas production (12,74%), for metal products, except machinery (3,42%), for stone quarrying and other mining (2,67%), for furniture (2,48%), for wood products (1,99%) and for coal, lignite and peat production (1,66%). On the other hand indices declined for coke and refined petroleum (-7,96%), for wearing apparel (-3,65%), for basic metal industry (-2,06%), for communication equipment (-1,49%), and for rubber and plastics products (-0,61%) compared with the previous month. The high rates of annual increase were in the industrial price indices for basic metal industry (29,17%), for crude petroleum and natural gas production (27,22%), for paper and paper products (23,84%), for furniture (19,38%), for electric machinery and apparatus (18,90%) and for electricity and gas (17,03%).
