Rivals attack Vista as illegal under EU rules

A coalition of rivals charged on Friday that Microsoft Corp’s new Vista operating system, due for worldwide release next week, will perpetuate practices found illegal in the European Union nearly three years ago.

The European Commission found in 2004 that Microsoft used its dominance to muscle out RealNetworks and other makers of audio and video streaming software and that it made its desktop Windows deliberately incompatible with  (more…)

Buca villagers at forefront of organic revolution

Four villages in Buca, Izmir have joined forces for farming the land organically. Their land is the biggest area in Turkey especially allocated for organic farming

These days villagers in Izmir’s Buca District are feeling pretty positive about the future because they are ready to expand recent organic farming projects, which have shown tremendous promise so far, in order to secure the community’s livelihood for the future.

MNG Airlines orders A330-200 Freighters

İstanbul-based cargo operator, MNG Airlines, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding for two A330-200F aircraft plus one option, becoming another launch customer for the new Airbus freighter.
Established in 1996, MNG Airlines initially provided scheduled cargo services in November 1997 to Hahn (Germany) and Stansted (UK) with a mid-range Airbus A300F.

Bahrain-Turkey companies sign $38m Letters of Intent

Seventy-three letters of intent (LoIs) worth an estimated $38 million were signed between Turkish and Bahraini companies at the second Bahraini-Turkish Entrepreneurs Investment Forum, it was revealed yesterday.

Croatia wants $1 bln trade volume with Turkey

Croatian Economy, Labor, & Entrepreneurship Minister Branko Vukelic said they target a trade volume of 1 billion USD with Turkey. Attending a meeting hosted by the Foreign Economic Relations Board (DEİK) in İstanbul yesterday, Vukelic reminded that trade volume between Turkey and Croatia is about 330 million USD.

Wolfowitz: Turkey is success story of World Bank

“Turkey is a success story of World Bank,” said Paul Wolfowitz, the bank’s president.
Wolfowitz noted that there has been a great transformation in Turkey in recent years, stressing that the country achieved significant successes and fulfilled important reforms.

New system eases customs transactions

Cash transactions at customs offices will cease with the new Güm-Kart — short for the customs card — said Foreign Trade Minister Kürşad Tüzmen. “Everyone will use their cards; procedures will be faster and registered. Misuses of cash payments in customs offices will end,” Tüzmen emphasized. Several government bodies will take part in the transition process to an e-Government system.
