İmren Tüylü, Citibank director for growth, announced that they will continue to invest in Turkey and were planning further growth in 2007.
Speaking to an Anatolia news agency reporter at the grand opening of Citibank’s Antalya branch, Tüylü said 2006 was an important year for Citibank and that Citibank had started its investments by first increasing  the number of branches in Turkey. “We’ve more than doubled the number of branches (in Turkey); we are now serving 13 cities as opposed to our previous six. Our total number of employees has also grown to 2,175,” said Tüylü.
The director recalled that Citibank also purchased 20 percent of the shares of Akbank, the second largest private bank in Turkey. “Citibank is the oldest foreign bank operating in Turkey and has been since 1975. This shows our permanency and trust with Turkey.” Tüylü noted that Citibank’s revenue and net profit for 2006 have not yet been officially announced but said net profit in 2005 was YTL 114 million.
