Turkish exports rose by 15.9 percent in 2006 over to the last year and reached 85.1 billion USD, Turkish Statistical Institute (TÜK) said on Wednesday.
According to the figures, imports in 2006 grew 17.3 percent to 137.3 billion USD.
Foreign trade deficit rose from 43.3 billion USD to  51.9 billion USD by a 19.8 percent increase.
The TÜİK statement on the issue says: According to the provisional data, in December 2006; exports grew by 16,6% and reached to 8.447 Million Dollars while imports decreased by 1,3% and reached to 11.530 Million Dollars compared with December 2005. At the same period, foreign trade deficit decreased by 30,5%, reached from 4.436 Million Dollars to 3.084 Million Dollars.
In December 2006 exports coverage imports was 73,3% while it was 62% in 2005.
In January-December 2006, exports grew (15,9% in 2006 compared with 2005) to 85.142 Million Dollars; imports grew (17,3% in 2006 compared with 2005) to 137.032 Million Dollars. As compared with 2005, the foreign trade deficit was up by 19,8% reached to 51.891 Million Dollars.

The weight of the EU in Exports has continued in 2006. As compared with the same period of the previous year, exports to EU were 43.936 Million Dollars increased by 14,4%. The proportion of the EU countries was 51,6% while the proportion of Free Zones in Turkey was 3,5% and the others was %44,9.
In January-December 2006, the main partner country for exports was Germany with 9.673 Million Dollars and increased by 2,3%. In December 2006, exports to Germany was 931 Million Dollars and increased by 3% in comparison with the same period of the previous year. For exports, Germany was followed by the UK (743 Million Dollars), Italy (638 Million Dollars), France (498 Million Dollars), the USA (404 Million Dollars) and Spain (336 Million Dollars)
In January-December 2006, while the European Union Countries were the most intensive country group for imports (53.850 Million Dollars), followed by other European Countries (29.541 Million Dollars), Asian Countries (35.797 Million Dollars) and Free Zones in Turkey (935 Million Dollars).
For December 2006, the top country for Turkey’s imports was Russia (1.674 Million Dollars), records for imports range from Germany (1.243 Million Dollars), China (849 Million Dollars), Italy (783 Million Dollars) and the USA (570 Million Dollars).

For January-December 2006, road vehicles and their parts has by far the highest value exported at 11.882 Million Dollars and then, articles of apparel and clothing accessories 6.936 Million Dollars, machineries, mechanical appliances, boilers, equipments and parts 6.502 Million Dollars.
At the same period, the top categories for imports were mineral fuels and mineral oils (28.553 Million Dollars) and then machineries, mechanical appliances, boilers, equipments and parts (18.711 Million Dollars).
