Foreigners dominate stock market in 2006

Foreign investors end year 2006 with a portfolio of over 50 percent of the shares and 65.26 of market value.
The Central Registry Agency data says that during the previous year, the share of the foreign investors in Istanbul Stock Exchange (İMKB) had always been more than 50 percent.
At the beginning of 2006, foreign investors held 66.39 percent of the market value by 5,979,664,086 units of stock and 52.52 percent of the stock share.
The stock share of the foreign investors rose to 52.91 pct at the end of Feb. 2006 together with a 67.26 pct of the market share.
In the first quarter of the previous year, domestic investors held 46.88 and foreign investors held 53.12 percent of the İMKB shares. However, due to the fluctuations in the market, the stock share of the foreigners decreased to 50.90 percent at the end of May.
In the given period, the market value of stocks held by foreigners stood at 45.5 billion YTL.
In June, the stock shares of the foreign investors stood around the same level, while the market value of foreigners� shares dropped to its lowest rate in 2006 in July, with a total value of 39.3 billion YTL.
Foreign investors completed the previous year by 7,739,194,371 units of share and 49,312,623,048 YTL of market value, controlling 65.25 percent of the total market value. As of 31 January, 55.11 percent of the total 15,177,626,827 units of the shares in İMKB are held by foreign investors and the remaining 44.89 is held by domestic investors. Foreigner share of the market values stood at 68.62 while the share of domestic investors remained at 31.38 percent.
