There are 14,782 international capital-companies operating in Turkey. According to a report on “Direct Foreign Investment Data Bulletin November 2006″ published by the Treasury, there were 12,176 international capital-companies and branches as of the end of October 2006, while 2,606 domestic capital-companies had international capital sharing.
The report said: “It is observed that 14,782 international capital-companies are active in manufacturing industry, real estate renting and  other business activities especially including wholesale and retail trade. Textile products manufacturing ranked first in the international capital-companies that are active in the manufacturing industry, the chemical and chemical products manufacturing placed second and food products beverage manufacturing placed third.
When the distribution of 14,782 international capital-companies is taken into consideration according to the country groups, it is seen that the number of the EU countries-joint ventures ranked first with 8,084. Among the EU countries-joint ventures, Germany placed first with 2,588 firms, while Britain placed second with 1,390 firms and the Netherlands third with 1,175.
When the distribution of 14,782 international capital-companies is taken into consideration according to the cities, it is observed that Istanbul placed first with 8,201, while the subsequent cities were Antalya with 1,736, Ankara with 1,029 and Izmir with 907.
It is seen that out of 8,210 international capital-companies operating in Istanbul, 3,171 were engaged in wholesale and retail trade, 1,772 in manufacturing industry and 951 in real estate renting and business activities.”
As of the end of November 2006, 2,496 international-capital companies and branches were set up and 591 domestic capital-companies had international capital sharing.
