With the rise of the number of Turkish contractor firms from 14 in 2005 to 20 in 2006, Turkey ranked at the third place after USA and China among “the 225 largest international contractor firms of the world.
Contractor Association of Turkey (TMB) President Erdal Eren explained that in the 35 years after 1970, the business volume of Turkish contractors that took place in 63 countries reached 85 billion dollars as of the end of 2006 and the number of projects undertaken increased to 3,600. Eren stressed that the gross sum of the 324 projects undertaken in 25 countries in 2005 was 12.7 billion dollars and added that the 2007 contracting abroad target is 15 billion dollars.  He explained that via reaching the target, the gross sum of the business undertaken abroad up to today will have reached 100 billlion dollars. Eren denoted the fact that the annual business volume undertaken abroad reached 9.3 billion dollars in 2005 from 1.5 billion dollars in 2002. He added that the increase of this figure to 12.7 billion dollars in 2006 indicates an 8.5 times increase in the performance in contracting abroad in the last 4 years.
Erdal Eren, expressing that 90 percent of the success achieved abroad belongs to TMB, added “Our contractors carry on proving their strength at four continents in service quality, adequate price, technological dominance, project management and customer satisfaction. Via increasing the number of Turkish contractor firms from 14 in 2005 to 20 in 2006, Turkey stood at the third place after USA and China among “the 225 largest international contractor firms of the world”. “The 225 largest international contractor firms of the world” are annually determined by one of the most internationally well known publications of the construction sector, ‘Engineering News Record (ENR)’ magazine by taking into consideration the abroad contracting revenue of the previous year. While evaluating the success of Turkish contractors, it is crucial to keep in mind one of the conclusions of the ‘Construction Sector Strategic Plan’ prepared by a group of academicians in 2004. This conclusion is that there is no country in the world with a per capita income close to that of Turkey that has a construction sector as international competitive as that of Turkey’s.”
Pointing out that in 2006 60 percent of the business was undertaken in mainly four countries, Russia, Qatar, Kazakhstan and Libya, Eren announced the first 10 countries where the largest amount of business was undertaken as:
