2006 industrial production shows 6 percent increase

Industrial production increased by 6 percent in Turkey during 2006, seeing growth in nearly all branches of manufacturing. According to the Turkish Statistical Institute’s (Turkstat) industrial production index, the highest increase in industrial production was in June 2006, jumping by 11.2 percent. The only month a decrease occurred was January, a 6 percent decline over the same month in 2005. Production increased by 4.3 percent in mining, 5.8 in manufacturing and 8.8 percent in electricity production. Manufacturing accounted for 99.4 percent of total production in 2006. The highest increase in manufacturing occurred in office and data processing equipment production, which was at 121 percent. Last year, plastic-rubber production decreased by 11.8 percent and textiles production decreased by 1.2 percent.
