Industrial production slows down in December, annual growth at 6 pct

Turkish Statistical Institute (TÜİK) has released monthly industrial production figures for the month of December.
The TÜİK says: ‘Monthly Industrial Production Index increased by 2,5 % in December of 2006 compared to the same month of 2005.
Monthly Industrial Production Index with the base year 1997=100, composed from the production information of 2005 important industry items according to ISIC Rev.3, reached 141,7 by increasing 2,5 % in December of 2006.
In the sub sectors level of industry, mining sector index reached from 100,6 to 102,2 by increasing 1,6 %, manufacturing industry sector index reached from 137,0 to 139,7 by increasing 1,9 %, electricity, gas and water index reached from 173,2 to 186,9 by increasing 7,9 % in December of 2006 compared with same month of the previous year.
When the twelve-month average of 2006 is also compared to previous year, total industry sector index reached from 130,0 to 137,9 by increasing 6,0 %, mining sector reached from 94,0 to 98,1 by increasing 4,3 %, manufacturing industry sector reached from 129,6 to 137,1 by increasing 5,8 %, electricity, gas and water sector reached from 156,3 to 170,1 by increasing 8,8%.
Total industrial sector increased every month of 2006 over the same months of 2005 except January. The main reason for this recession in January was the decrease by 7,9 % in manufacturing industry sector which has a 86,92 % share in total industry sector. The main reason of decrease in manufacturing industry sector is the decrease by 5,3 % in manufacture of coke, refined petroleum product sector having 14,48 % share in manufacturing industry, by 8,9 % in manufacture of basic metals of 9,9 %.
When the change rates of Manufacture Industry Production Index in December of 2006 compared to December of 2005 inspected, the highest increase was in manufacture of other transport equipment, 749,0 %, 25,7 % manufacture of tobacco products, and by 19,7 % manufacture of machinery and equipment.’
