Turkish Airlines (THY) will start direct flights from İstanbul to Lahore, a city in eastern Pakistan, in May this year, as it was decided during a meeting between Culture and Tourism Atilla Koç and Pakistani Minister for Tourism Nilofar Bakhtiar at İstanbul.
Lahore is the capital of the province of Punjab, and the second most populated city in Pakistan with around 10 million people.
The meeting held at the sidelines of EMITT 2007, also decided to increase the number of flights between Pakistan and Turkey. Currently, THY flies 4-weekly to Karachi, and PIA to Islamabad 2-weekly.
The two ministers discussed avenues of increasing the tourism traffic and ways to further facilitate the potential tourists.
Nilofar Bakhtiar complimented the Turkish Tourism Ministry for excellent performance in the recent years. She hoped Pakistan tourism industry would enhance interaction with that of Turkey’s to get benefit from each other expertise.
The two also agreed to further cement the already existing ties between Pakistan and Turkey with special focus on tourism promotion.
It was also decided in the meeting that the number of tourism delegations between the two countries would be increased.
