The Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM) Industry, Trade, Energy, Natural Resources, and Informatics&Technology Commission has passed the nuclear power plants bill with some changes at its meeting, yesterday.
Energy and Natural Resources Minister Hilmi Güler told the commission that the new draft bill is better then the former in bringing much less burden to the public finances and they would collect bids from private investors and select the most advantageous ones.
Minister Güler said they would announce a tender invitation prior to general elections which are due to be held in next November, normally.
Güler told reporters after the commission session that they opened up the energy sector to free competition with the draft bill. Güler added that they would grant a 15-year electricity purchase guarantee for the nuclear power plant projects.
Güler said that they opened an express way for investors with the new bill and at present they only specified two locations for nuclear power plant sites, so far, in Mersin and Sinop provinces.
