Indian IOC unveils mega investments in Turkey

Indian Oil Corporation Ltd. (IOC) announced earlier in the week major plans for its entry into the refinery and petrochemicals business in Turkey, reported India Infoline News Service

The company is looking to set up a 15 million tons per year greenfield refinery in Ceyhan with an estimated investment of $6 billion, (more…)

Mobius: We are interested in five companies in Turkey

Templeton Fund founder Mobius said that they are interested in five companies in Turkey, including Akbank, Turkcell, Arçelik, as well as Turkish Airlines.
Mark Mobius, the founder of the Templeton Fund, stated that 10 percent of their portfolio is in Turkey and they are aiming to detect the undervalued stocks monitoring the companies with a long-term perspective. Pakistan, Turkey to exchange 100,000 tourists next Year

Federal Pakistani Minister for Tourism, Nilofer Bakhtiar on Wednesday said a target has been set for exchange of 100,000 tourists between Turkey and Pakistan during the next year.
She was addressing a program arranged by Turkish Airlines to mark the arrival of 100 tour operators from Turkey to Pakistan in Karachi at a hotel.
The Federal Minister pointed out that great potential exists for tourism in Pakistan and Turkey and efforts are being made to promote tourism between the two countries.

Four bids for tender of Izmir Harbor sale

Turkish State Railways received four different offers for the privatization of the İzmir harbor.The offers were made by the Alsancak joint initiative group, Babcock and Brown, and PSA-Akfen joint initiative group, Çelebi Holding, and Global Hutchison and EIB joined in an initiative group. Goodbye Telsim, hello Vodafone Türkiye

We came to Turkey to shake the market leader, said the head of Vodafone’s Turkey unit, hinting at the mobile telecommunications giant’s plans for Turkey.Attila Vitai was speaking on Friday at a press conference held to officially announce the change in name of Turkey’s second largest mobile phone operator “Telsim Vodafone” to “Vodafone Türkiye.” It has been announced that subscribers to Vodafone-Telsim in Turkey increased by 1 million in the past three months, reaching 13.8 million. Road privatizations should be carried out in a single tender

While big players in the highway-related industries gear up for the forthcoming privatizations of Turkey’s highways, the president of the Turkish Contractors Association (TMB) is urging the government to offer the operating rights and tenders for new toll roads together to avoid future financial problems for the winning bidder. Central Bank profits at YTL 3.1 billion in 2006

The Central Bank had profits amounting to YTL 3.102 billion last year. The Central Bank had a record level of profits worth YTL 5.154 billion in 2001, the crisis year. In 2002, this figure was only YTL 31 million. The Central Bank has had losses since 2003 due to the monetary policy implemented for the reduction of the inflation rate. The Central Bank completed 2003 with the losses worth YTL 1.5 billion, 2004 with YTL 509 million and 2005 with YTL 131.4 million.
The Central Bank’s losses in 2006 originated from the foreign currency transactions. The Central Bank will allocate YTL 2.1 billion of its profits (more…)
