The Monthly Industrial Production Index, released by the Turkish Statistics Institute (Turkstat), has shown an increase for January over the same period last year. The index is up 14.8 percent when compared to the same month in 2006. The index has a base year 1997=100, and is composed of production information for important industry items according to International Standard Industrial Classification Rev.3. The index reached 128.2 in January. In sub-sector industries the mining sector index was up from 78.7 to 91.5; the manufacturing industry sector index was up from 108.5 to 125.2; and the electricity, gas and water index was up from 165.6 to 182.6.

When the 2006 12-month average is compared to the previous year, the total industry sector index was up 5.8 percent, from130 to 137.6. Over the year, sub-sector industries were all up: the mining sector was up 4.3 percent; the manufacturing industry sector was up 5.5 percent; and electricity, gas and water sector was up 9.1 percent. When the change rates of Manufacture Industry Production Index in January of 2007 compared to January of 2006 inspected, the highest increase was in manufacture of electrical machinery n.e.c. 57 percent, 47.7 percent manufacture of fabricated metal products, and by 44 percent manufacture of machinery and equipment n.e.c.
