Turkey’s automotive market experienced a rise in both production and exports while sales dropped during the first two months of 2007.
As of February of this year, total sales dropped by 28.9 percent and automobile sales by 31 percent, according to an Automotive Industry Association report. In February, 31,931 vehicles were sold, of which 17,212 were automobiles. In February of 2006, the total number of vehicles sold was 44,920. While the first two months of 2007 witnessed a 26.6 percent decrease in automotive sales, as compared to the sales of the first two months of 2006, the market share of imports dropped from 73 to 69 percent. On the other hand, the total vehicle production in the first two months of 2007 increased by 15.6 as compared to the same period last year, thereby reaching 153,256. Automobile production for January and February of 2007 has also increased by 26.7 percent, reaching 85,948.
