The Renault division in Turkey, Renault Mais, has seen a dramatic drop in sales recently, with figures down 25 percent year-on-year; however the management has stated that this is no cause for concern.Renault Mais Turkey General Manager İbrahim Aymar, speaking at the 2007 Çukurova Auto Show yesterday, said that “there is no need to worry” about the figures and noted that despite the difficulties being faced in the automotive sector, sales are proceeding with consistency. Aybar laid the blame for the drop on the economic fluctuations of May of last year, but added that the impact had not been as great as in similar situations in past years. He noted: “If Turkey’s gross national product per capita becomes equivalent to the price of a vehicle the threats to the automotive sector will be eliminated. Today the price of a vehicle is approximately $10,000. Turkey must be able to make $10,000 GNP per capita. This means that we have quite a bit of room for improvement.” He added: “When trying to attain this target, we must be able to grow consistently.”
