Goodbye Telsim, hello Vodafone Türkiye

We came to Turkey to shake the market leader, said the head of Vodafone’s Turkey unit, hinting at the mobile telecommunications giant’s plans for Turkey.Attila Vitai was speaking on Friday at a press conference held to officially announce the change in name of Turkey’s second largest mobile phone operator “Telsim Vodafone” to “Vodafone Türkiye.” It has been announced that subscribers to Vodafone-Telsim in Turkey increased by 1 million in the past three months, reaching 13.8 million. Vittai said they were preparing a giant advertising campaign and that they perceived such expenditure as investment. He also noted that they were increasing their network quality to global standards, higher than that of their rivals. UK-based Vodafone, one of world’s leading mobile phone operators, serving over 200 million subscribers, purchased Telsim in December 2005.
