Another record-breaking day at the IMKB

Despite many quarters expressing concern over the impact of the forthcoming presidential elections, the İstanbul Stock Exchange (İMKB) is providing cause for optimism, reaching its highest level in 2007 yesterday.
At the end of trading on Friday the İMKB-100 Index closed at just above 46,000 points for the first time in 13 months. This week had already seen a 2007-high in the second session on Thursday, with 45,714 points. The last time the İMKB performed as well as it did yesterday was 6 March, 2006, when the index saw 46,608 points. Analysts have suggested that positive expectations surrounding the presidential elections and the ease of tension between Iran and Britain contributed to the upswing of the stock exchange. They added that if the current trend can be preserved the index may top 48,000.
