Cement production in Turkey increased last year by 10 percent over 2005, and cement exports fell by 27 percent, in parallel with a surge in domestic demand.According to data from the Turkish Cement Manufacturer’s Association (TÇMB) Turkey produced a record amount of 47.4 million tons of cement in 2006, while some 41.6 million tons were consumed within the country. In 2005 the total amount of cement production was 42.8 million tons. Last year, most of the production was carried out in the factories in the Marmara region. The central Anatolia region followed it as the second largest producer. The third was the Mediterranean region. Turkey ranks first in Europe in cement production and third in the world.
