3G mobile license tender soon to be announced

Telecommunication Board (TK) President Tayfun Acarer has said a tender invitation for the third generation (3G) mobile licenses would be published in the Official Gazette by the end of this week.
TK President Tayfun Acarer spoke at the 6th Regional Turkey, Caspian, Central Asia, Russia and Black Sea Telecoms and IT Conference & Showcase being held in Istanbul and stated the tender would be held within 1-2 months.
A total of 4 mobile operators would be awarded 3G licenses, and in proportion with the license bandwidth; minimum price of A-type license is set at EUR 252 million, B-type license at EUR 224 million, C-type license at EUR 194 million, and D-type license at EUR 140 million.
The license validity period is set as 20 years by a Council of Ministers Decree published in the Official Gazette on February 16, this year.
Current and new mobile operators would submit bids in the tender.
On the other hand, TK President Acarer said 2007 would be a year in which ‘very serious’ steps to be taken such as cell phone transferability among the operators, Mobile Virtual Network Operator (MVNO) business, broadband wireless access.
