Ford leads commercial vehicle export

Auto producer Ford Otosan took first place in the export of light commercial vehicles (LCV) in the first quarter of 2007.
Ford Otosan exported 54,819 vehicles while Renault, Tofaş and Toyota exported 51,425, 33,391 and 33,288 vehicles, respectively. LCV exports in this period increased to 186,191 units, 24 percent higher than 2006 first quarter exports of 149,796. According to a statement released by the Automobile Manufacturers’ Association (OSD), total domestic motor vehicle sales decreased by 27 percent and car sales by 30 percent in March of this year over March 2006. Total domestic sales numbers in the first quarter were 103,000 units, and the share of imported vehicles increased to 46 percent. Total vehicle production decreased by 10 percent, down to 247,000 units, in the first quarter of 2007 compared to the same period in 2006.
