Tender for new international flights terminal of Milas-Bodrum Airport this month

The tender for the new international flights terminal of Milas airport in Aegean town of Bodrum, which was cancelled by the Turkish Transportation Ministry, will be held again within a month.

The terminal will be constructed according to the build-operate-transfer model, while in the tender held last year, firms and/or consortia competed for the shortest management period. The most appropriate offer was made by Teknotes Teknolojik Tesisler Corp. (technological facilities) and Aerodrom Beograde Airport consortium. They offered to run the international flights terminal for 45 months.

The State Airports Administration General Directorate (DHMI) asked for cancellation of the tender, while Transportation Minister Ismet Yilmaz approved this demand on Friday.

According to a note sent to DHMI by the ministry, keeping the management period short can be seen as a public interest at first. However, the ministry noted, this period is not enough to fulfill public service properly and without any interruption.

The ministry also stated that the consortium, which has undertaken the tender, is a state company and therefore it may not fully meet the requirement to construct the terminal with an “advanced technology”.

In this case, DHMI will launch necessary preparations for a new tender and is expected to hold a new tender no later than a month.
