Aselsan, the Turkish Undersecretariat of Defense Industry, and prime contractor Turkish Aerospace Industries (TAI) have jointly signed a contract for the manufacturing of 50 attack helicopters, the Anatolia news agency reported. The contract was worth $700 million and the delivery of the helicopters to Turkey’s armed forces will begin in 2009, said the report. Anatolia said Aselsan is the leading multi-product electronics company of Turkey, which designs, develops and manufactures modern electronic systems for military and professional customers. TAI, a technology center in design, development, manufacturing, integration of aerospace systems, modernization and after sales support in Turkey, was established on May 15, 1984. TAI’s modern aircraft facilities, located in Ankara, is furnished with high technology machinery and equipment that provide extensive manufacturing capabilities ranging from parts manufacturing to aircraft assembly, flight tests and delivery.
