A factory located in Zonguldak has exported 1.3 million euros worth of snails to France.

Ayanoğlu Chairman Sadık Ayanoğlu said his company was established in 1997 on 20,000 square meters of land in Zonguldak with a YTL 3 million investment. He says their annual production capacity is 1,500 tons of snails and employs nearly 100 workers.

Snails are known to be helpful in the digestion of alcohol and contain calcium, magnesium and phosphorus. Although they are not consumed in Turkey at all, they are collected to be exported mostly to France, Switzerland, Italy and Germany.

Snails live in dewy regions and are collected after April, processed in factories before export.
