General Mobile, the global technology giant, has launched a new PDA mobile phone the first to work simultaneously with two sim cards.
DSTW1 mobile phones, which come with Microsoft Windows programmes, will be distributed in Turkey through Gençcell, the wholesale supplier of mobile phones.
Gençcell managing director, Muzaffer Gölcu, told reporters the new mobile phone will be available in Turkey from February for the price of YTL 699, the equivalent of 395 euros. “The new model is the only one available at present that allows two lines to be used simultaneously. As such the new phone is a real portable computer,” he said.
The new phone, which has a capacity of 265 mega bites and weighs 143 grams, also has the ability to read business cards through its OCR Card Scanner function. The mobile is also equipped with a 2.0 megapixel camera, Bluetooth and Microsoft Office programs, including Power Point.
Okan Akın, manager at Microsoft Turkey, told reporters Microsoft planned and tested the new DSTW1 mobile phone together with General Mobile. “Cooperation between Microsoft and General Mobile will continue in 2008 and 2009 on other projects,” he said.
Earlier this week Turkey’s chief telecommunications regulator announced it will allow number portability in mobile phones later this year. The infrastructure needed to allow number portability will be completed in May. Once the system is ready, mobile operators will be obliged to implement it within six months, according to the daily Vatan.
