According to data recently released by the İstanbul Chamber of Commerce (İTO), foreign capital invested in foreign-based companies in İstanbul in 2007 increased by 90.6 percent over 2006.

The number of foreign-based companies established in İstanbul increased by 31.4 percent in 2007 compared to 2006, according to a report on foreign partners and foreign capital issued by the İTO on Tuesday. 

According to the report, 3,071 foreign-based companies with a total of YTL 410.3 million in capital launched operations in İstanbul last year. The Netherlands took top spot in capital among foreign-based companies established in 2007, with 12.54 percent of total capital, followed by Iraq, France, South Korea and Germany.

Last year, consulting services attracted the most investors in numbers and in capital, with 665 foreign investors and YTL 71.6 million in investment. A total of 41.4 percent of foreign investors that came to İstanbul last year and 42.2 percent of the corresponding committed capital settled in the construction, electronics-telecommunications and consulting services sectors.
