Microsoft considers Turkey to be its regional base for Africa and the Middle East, according to Microsoft Turkey General Manager Mustafa Çağan.
Speaking in Antalya yesterday at a meeting on the problems of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), Çağan said the information technology sector has grown 15 percent each year on average, while Microsoft Turkey grew by 30 percent last year and aims to grow at the same rate in 2008.
He said Turkey was among the fastest-growing countries in the information technology sector, joining a list that includes Russia, China, Brazil and India. Çağan also said Turkey had become a base for Microsoft’s operations in Africa and the Middle East and that operations in 79 countries were managed from İstanbul. The region’s operations are directed by 100 employees and all meetings take place in İstanbul, with managers from these 79 countries taking part. “We can host Arabs and Israelis, for example, as we are at peace with both sides,” he said.
