Turkey’s “Adzhar Energy” will construct seven new hydro power plants in Azharia in accordance with a memorandum, signed by Energy Minister Aleksandr Hetaguri of Georgia and “Adzhar Energy” Director General Metin Gumusoglu.

According to Hetaguri, investments into hydro power plants will total $167 million. The total capacity of plants will be 119 MegaWatt.

The construction will start in 2009 and will create 2,000 new jobs.

The construction is a part of the government’s program, Hetaguri stressed. He noted that electricity will be exported to Turkey.

Negotiations on construction of four hydro-power plants on the rivers Rioni, Inguri and Kura are underway.
