Zorlu Enerji has won a privatization tender for nine power plants, with a total capacity of 141 megawatts, belonging to the Ankara Doğal Elektrik Üretim corporation, with a $510 million bid.
Zorlu Chairman Ahmet Nazif Zorlu said they would make their payment in one lump sum. The tender, presided over by Privatization Administration (ÖİB) Vice President Ahmet Aksu, was held yesterday in Ankara. At the privatization, the 30-year operating rights of the Tercan, Kuzgun, Mercan, İkizdere, Çıldır, Beyköy and Ataköy hydropower plants and the Denizli geothermal power plant and ownership of the Engil power plant were sold.

Thirty companies submitted bids and three firms had been eliminated at the bilateral-negotiations phase before the final auction. Before the auction Aksu said this tender was the first step of the privatization process for electricity production and distribution. After the written auction phase, the benchmark price was set at $476 million, and 13 firms remained for the oral auction phase. Zorlu Enerji won the tender for $510 million after eight written and six oral auction phases.
