Chinese carmaker Chery entered the Turkish market last month and has plans to introduce several new models here in the next five years.
In a written statement released yesterday Chery noted that it had sold 380,000 cars to domestic and foreign markets in 2007 and that its 2008 sales target is 480,000. Following its entry last month into the Turkish market with two models, the Tiggo 3 and the Alia, imported by its Turkish distributor Mermerler Otomotiv, Chery is planning to offer 38 other models to Turkish customers in the next five years.

Chery is among the top five carmakers in China and is increasing its capacity each day, a statement released by Mermerler Otomotiv said. The Chinese carmaker is planning to sell 300,000 cars in its domestic market and 180,000 cars to foreign markets this year.

Last year Chery sold 120,000 cars to international markets with a record monthly average export rate of 15,000 cars. The carmaker currently has production facilities in seven countries, including Russia, Egypt, Indonesia and Uruguay. Chery is said to have plans to establish a plant in Turkey due to its strategic position.

Chery recently made production deals with leading automotive companies Fiat and Chrysler and is expected to concentrate on its production and marketing efforts.
