New York meeting focuses on woes of Turkish private sector

Problems and objectives of the private sector were discussed in a conference titled “Turkey After 2008″ in New York, the United States on Monday.
Dogan Holding CEO Nebil Ilseven, Sabanci Holding Retail Group Chairman Haluk Dincer, ATA Holding Executive Board Chairman Korhan Kurdoglu and Dogus Group Executive Board Chairman Ferit Sahenk discussed economic situation in Turkey, problems, strategies and objectives of the private sector as well as the country’s EU accession process in the panel discussion.
Sahenk said Turkish companies achieved a great transformation and learnt how to cope with economic crises. Economic stability in Turkey made the country an attractive one for international investors, he said. “We have a more transparent economy and we have self-confidence,” Sahenk stated.
Kurdoglu said, “we are assessing our resources and deficiencies in a healthier way. It is a cultural change. We have to walk on our path with a great determination.”
On the other hand, Ilseven said Turkish economy became more resilient to economic crises.
Turkey’s EU adhesion process is an important one and it is a national project, Ilseven said.
