The Turkish automotive sector increased its exports by 54 percent to $6.4 billion in the first quarter of 2008 over the same period last year.

According to Automotive Manufacturers Association (OSD) data, automobile exports, the primary item of automotive exports, increased by 50 percent to $2.2 billion in the same period. Bus exports increased by 59 percent to $333.7 million. Total motor vehicle exports increased by 58 percent to $4.4 billion. 

In the first three months of 2008, exports of automotive spare parts increased by 49 percent to $1.6 billion. In the same period, tire exports increased by 29 percent to $273 million.
