Four companies submitted bids on Monday for construction of a nuclear power plant to be built in the Mediterranean coast of Turkey.

This will be the first nuclear power plant in Turkey, and will be built near Mersin’s Akkuyu town.

AECL of Canada, Hochu of Japan, Vinci Corp of France, Suez-Tractabel of Belgium have acquired specifications forms for the tender.

“We expect Turkish companies to set up consortia with experienced foreign firms and join this tender,” Turkish Energy and Natural Resources Ministry said.

The tender for construction of a 4,000-megawatts of nuclear power plant is scheduled for October 24, 2008.

The Turkish Energy Trade amd Commitment Corp. will buy the electricity generated at the nuclear power plant for 15 years.
