Chinese cars enter Turkish market

Chinese automaker Chery entered the Turkish market in Februrary with two models, Alia and Tiggo. The prices are far from cheap, ranging from YTL 19,900-34,990 ($15,225-26,270).
The distributor in Turkey for Chery is Mermerler Automotive, owned by Automotive Distributors Association (ODD) Chairman Yüksel Mermerler. Mermerler said not importing the cheap models was a preference for the Turkish market. “Nobody in Turkey will like to own a cheap but unsafe and uncomfortable car,” he said. Importing to Turkey is an important step for Chinese automakers, which have had difficulties with the European Union, since Turkey is a member of the Customs Union. Chery is reportedly planning investment in Turkey in order to export cars to Europe.
