A recent survey sponsored by tourism agent Öger Tur to evaluate the preferences of German tourists has shown that the latter largely favor Turkey as a holiday destination because of the all-inclusive rates at hotels.

Öger Tur General Manager Recep Yavuz noted that his agency attempted to determine the reasons behind German’s vacation picks in the survey. Speaking to the Anatolia news agency, Yavuz said 44 percent of the respondents also cited the wealth of options for children as one of the most important feature of Turkish hotels, a factor that cannot be found at many hotels in other countries.

Noting that the survey results would make great contributions to the development of tourism strategies, Yavuz stated that 55,000 of the 90,000 participants said they had chosen Turkey as their vacation destination more than once. He said the survey revealed that the average age of foreign guests staying at Turkish resorts had decreased, which, he noted, confirms that a younger generation of Germans view Turkey as a vacation destination. “This will ensure that Turkey becomes an important tourism destination for Germany in the long run. The growing interest in cultural assets and satisfaction with services also demonstrates that Turkey occupies a central place in world tourism,” he stated. Yavuz recalled that 90 percent of respondents said they were satisfied with the services offered at Turkey’s hotels.

Noting that 20 percent of the respondents stated that they felt at home while vacationing in Turkey, Yavuz also stated that all-inclusive prices were cited as the number-one reason for their preference of Turkey as a vacation destination, adding that this shows the importance of this system. “It is illogical to call for the removal of this system unless a proper replacement is offered. Instead of suggesting that the tourists should not leave their hotels and that the natural beauties and vacation resorts are presented to the tourists at very inexpensive prices, Turkey should discuss how to implement a more consistent and sustainable system,” he stated.

Turkish tourists interested in culture tourism

Hey Travel Trends Manager Necati Çalışkan has said Turkish citizens have developed an interest in visiting museums and historic places and alternative destinations like the plateus of the Black Sea region instead of heading to places of sea, sand and sun.

Speaking to the Anatolia news agency, Çalışkan said individuals interested in new places prefer cultural and historical destinations of Europe such as Paris and Florence.

“There is a growing interest in this sort of vacation. Even though some complain that they must walk around a lot on such tours, the participation is increasing. Some are travelling far distances within Turkey to see the Hagia Sophia or Ephesus while some are flying to Sarajevo to see the Mostar Bridge,” he noted.

He stated that his agency organizes cultural tours to promote the country’s cultural assets and to contribute to Turkey’s economic development. “We have declared 2008 the Year of the Black Sea. We simply seek to ensure that there isn’t a single person who has not seen the Black Sea region. Trips to Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Macedonia and Adriatic shores attract the greatest attention among our international tours. On these tours, our guests go shopping and go to museums as well. We want to make sure that those on these tours, whose price range varies between 695 and 2,295 euros, will see places that are off the beaten path.”
